What skills are learned at each level?

Step by Step Riding
Level 2
At level 2 understanding diagonals as well as how and when to switch them on school figures are taught. Additional skills include: whip handling, neck reining, following hands, how to ride Z's, center lines, 2 loop serpentines, and how to move into the corners. The rider is introduced to the canter at this level.

Step by Step Riding
Level 4
Level four includes lessons on lightness and relaxation, giving and softness in the aids extensions and collection, better transitions, feeling diagonal changes, tempo, rhythm, accuracy on the center line and crossing the school on the diagonal, simple and flying lead changes, side pass, bareback, and leg yield quarter line to the wall.

Step by Step Riding
Level 5
At level five riders learn to ride a horse with suppleness, straightness and bend. Riders will learn to execute square halts, as well as ride in extension and collection. They will ride quarter line to quarter line serpentines, canter/lope 15 m circles, trot/jog 10 m circles, ride at all gaits with no stirrups, hand gallop, leg yield to and away from the wall and turn on the haunches

Step by Step Riding
Level 6
At level six riders improve their connection to the horse through the aids. Contact with the horse is refined. The rider learns to evaluate a strange horse. Other skills at level six include rein back 4-6 steps,, free walk across the diagonal,, 10 m reverse through the circle, and 15 meter circle lope/canter out of a corner.
